Q:

Further support

My child started secondary school, he has a link teacher to help in his individual classes however he repeats they are often not there all the time in his lessons. If he is at lessons with no link support teacher he often has to sit at the back doesn't really understand what is happening. I'm new to secondary school system should a support teacher he there at all lessons because when they aren't he is isolated at the back not knowing what he is doing?

MY, if your son does not possess an EHC plan, I recommend that you contemplate commencing the process of acquiring one.

If your son does possess an EHC plan, the 'teaching' support you are referring to would be classified as special educational provision and would thus be located within section F of the EHC plan.

If the provision being ‘made’ (or he is being given) deviates adversely from what is stipulated in section F, I advise you to consider making a formal complaint to the LA on the grounds that s42 of The Children and Families Act 2014 has been breached.

If you believe that section F of your son's EHC plan lacks the specificity necessary in comparison to the teaching support you deem  your son needs, I suggest you pursue an amendment to his EHC plan. This is process is perhaps most effectively started at the next review meeting, though considering your son's recent transition, you have a legitimate basis to request an earlier review meeting if this is required.

I trust that this guidance proves helpful, and I eagerly await the input of others on this matter.
