A new diagnosis would appear to be pertinent to a child or young person’s special educational needs, and potentially also to matters concerning health and social care. It would therefore be reasonable to expect that their EHC plan be amended to reflect the new diagnosis, along with any other relevant information arising from it. This could be achieved through a review of the EHC plan.

To answer your question directly, there is no inherent requirement for a new diagnosis to automatically trigger a statutory reassessment.

A reassessment can be requested at any time, as long as six months has elapsed since the completion of the last statutory assessment.
